Has it happened to you that you have planned the most productive day but end up on scrolling Instagram all day? Furthermore, have you noticed that you consume more content these days and end up feeling like shit?

Well, I did that all the time. I notice that I was in a vicious cycle of self-loathing and procrastinating due to it. (Not that, I am not anymore, but I have become more cautious and conscious of these things.)

It is time we become more mindful of the content we consume and incline towards positive content. Mind-Positive content, unlike body-positive content, does not only talk about our physical bodies but also our mind. In the era, when information overdose is as common as other kinds of overdoses. It’s important to surround ourselves with content that evokes a sense of happiness, kindness and knowledge.

So here are a few tips for celebrating the World Mental Health Day happier and with positive content.

  • Create more than you consume: Have experienced days full of unproductive scrolling or binge-watching make you sad and lethargic if continued for days. These things are said to produce dopamine, and your body experiences a drug-like high which results in mental fatigue. That’s why an increase in creation makes you productive and happily exhausted at the end of the day.
  • Sort your Social Media Accounts: There are times when the most ideal posts and accounts of your favourite celebrity feels like a taunt to your body and mental space you are in currently. It’s okay to feel that. When you realise that there is more envy than ‘feel-good’ factor. You need to unfollow. There can varied reasons for this like political reasons, body image or absolutely anything at all. But remember you have the power and right to unfollow at any moment you feel like.
  • Watch the genres you like but also watch the effect of the content you consume: There are a lot of us that genres like thriller, horror and tragedy. (I love these genres) but there are times watching something makes me cringe not the sight of the blood or skull-crushing but just the vibe a certain content pieces give. That’s the time to listen to yourself rather than the trend.

“ Action without intention is meaningless and intention without action is impactless.” -Jay Shetty

  • Identify the learning or entertainment factor of the content: When we watch something with intention it makes it more fruitful. Therefore if you are learning a new skill online (such as cooking, Photoshop, editing, etc) do it when that intention. Or if you are just chilling and watching something to entertain make a mental note of it. There are times we need to understand our productivity and scope of work to be at peace.
  • Read books: “The grey cells” as Hercule Poirot says, get activated in your brain with the act of reading. Unlike audio-visual, books are a active way of learning and also leads to higher retention.
  • Monitor the time spent on the internet: Do spend hours surfing the internet but also don’t overdo it.
  • Don’t drain your self scrolling the same page over and over again: Stop it now! There no easy way. Get an app like Forest to help you stay away or consciously remind yourself to stay away.
  • Get inspired. Make an inspiration board: There are many ways to get inspired through motivational videos, to-do lists or bucket list or even travel inspiration. Find the content you like and what feels good.
  • Motivational Videos: There are tons of motivational and self-care video that can broaden your perspective and make your day happier.
  • Like, Share, Comment consciously: We have to be aware that our actions have equal and opposite consequences and if we want a positive environment we have to nurture it accordingly. We cannot spread hate and expect love in return. Therefore we collectively are responsible for the atmosphere we are in.

Let’s kind and positive in the world of trolls and haters. Let’s spread happiness and feel-good content that can inform, educate and entertain us. Let’s not be confined to the definition of others happiness and create our own online and offline.
